Europe has decided it wants to lead the world in life sciences. That is a big thing for a continent to say out loud, and the right thing. Saying it was one part. Now Europe needs to see what it already is, and then build and connect the rest here. With more ambition. And a louder voice. Europe has asked the world to choose Europe for life sciences. It can start by choosing itself.
Choosing to connect the full ecosystem. Patients and healthcare professionals. Innovators and investors. Payers, health systems and policymakers. Academia and industry. The innovation clusters that punch above their weight and the capitals that fund them. Medicines, devices, diagnostics and digital health. Prevention above all, because the healthiest region on earth gets built long before anyone reaches a hospital. Those are a few of the pairings. The interesting part is what happens between them.
Much of what we have is scattered across countries, sectors and disciplines, and it does not always land on the same page. We put it there.
Two things would help, and we will keep asking for them. The next State of the Union should say the words life sciences and biotechnology out loud, on the main stage. The next EU budget should recognise health and life sciences for what they are, and for what they should become.
nexxahealth is about what comes next. The next progress in health. The next wave in medicine. The next generation of biotechnology. The next era of patient care. The next standard in policymaking. The next chapter of Europe’s health and life sciences ecosystem.
That next is being built, in laboratories, hospitals, factories and in the European Institutions. This magazine goes to find it.
